Fall Foliage and Camping in the Northeast

Fall Foliage and Camping in the Northeast

Howdy Campers,

Fall is in full swing and we find ourselves in peak foliage season! Our team has curated a list of some great leaf-looking spots in the Northeast. Let's take a look!

The Kancamagus Highway

Looking for a stunning drive and some great campsites? The Kancamagus Highway is a 34.5 mile scenic byway winding along New Hampshire's Rt. 112. This region of New Hampshire is well-known as one of the best leaf-looking areas in the country.

The Kancamagus Highways enters the White Mountain National Forest and offers breathtaking views of the White Mountains, the Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge. The Kancamagus Highway takes you up to an elevation of roughly 3,000 feet at its highest point (on the flank of Mt. Kancamagus near Lincoln, NH).

Looking to extend the experience? The Kancamagus Highway also offers six National Forest campgrounds. Campgrounds on the Kancamagus Scenic Byway all offer bathrooms, drinking water, an open fireplace, picnic tables and parking! Read more on the specifics here

Lake George

If you're looking for a place to vacation and experience some great foliage, check out the Lake George area. The majestic Adirondack forests overlooking Lake George are covered in a beautiful palette of fall colors. Deep reds, bright yellows, and rich oranges create a landscape fit for a postcard! Lake George has many great amenities including zip lining, lake/boat activities, restaurants, apple picking and more! Read more on Lake George here.

Old Forge

Old Forge is a year-round Adirondack destination with beautiful foliage and nearly 200 clear mountain lakes! We recommend checking out the Rocky Point hike. A nice and easy hike gives you a great view of the Fulton Chain Lakes. Moose River is another great destination if you're in the area!

Vermont

While Vermont boasts many incredible fall foliage spots, we especially enjoy driving Route 100 from Ludlow to Killington. Enjoy beautiful rolling hills and bold fall colors!

In the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, be sure to walk around the rim of Lake Willoughby. This is a great way to see the colors of the Green Mountains reflecting off the clear water.

Enjoy the season! Travel Far, Sleep Great!
